YPSI participated in events early on during the pandemic to spread awareness about Asian culture and prevent Asian hate in our local community.

Yellow Whistle Campaign

Partnering with Councilman Chris Cate, YPSI joined in on the national effort: The Yellow Whistle Campaign

Amidst the pandemic, hate spread toward Asian Americans. Asian elders were the most vulnerable and were the most physically attacked. The yellow whistles symbolized hope, protection, and community. In the case of an attack, a blow from the whistle would be a means to ward off danger.

We visited over 5 senior apartment homes in downtown San Diego to drop off yellow whistles

House of China

In Balboa Park, the House of China stands as one of the houses in the House of Pacific Relations, to promote traditions and harmony among cultures

The first step to a fight against hate is a fostering of understanding of different cultures

YPSI contacted the House of China in Balboa Park to spread Chinese culture by serving food, writing calligraphy, and spreading the customs of China as visitors came in
